Swing Into Summer with Three Rivers Virtual Golf Tournament

Jun 2, 2020

Three Rivers Land Trust is currently working on land protection projects covering 1,900 acres in the Sandhills. These lands are in addition to six conservation projects in Moore County they closed in 2019-2020, more than any other area where the organization works.

“We need the support of our local community, so that we can protect the undeveloped land that remains and ensure that our area remains a vibrant place to live,” said TRLT Eastern Regional Director, Ellie Daniels.

Because of the COVID-19 threat, many of the scheduled events and fundraisers have been canceled or postponed, prompting the nonprofit to look for innovative ways to help people connect with the outdoors.

“We’ve come up with a brand new event that will provide that camaraderie and connection that so many have been missing in a way that benefits conservation,” Daniels said.

The Swing Into Summer Virtual Golf Tournament lets players tee up for local conservation and enjoy some socially-distant fun from June 20-26 on one of six sponsored courses (including Pinehurst No. 1 and 5) across TRLT’s 15-county region. Participants may also play on their own home course, while keeping track of their scores on the easy-to-use GolfStatus app.

Registration opens this week at $400 per team of four to play 18 holes in a Captain’s Choice format. Prizes for teams will be divided into three flights based on total team handicap, giving everyone a chance to win.

Registration includes play on your choice of one of the six courses, a raffle ticket, and event swag that can be picked up at TRLT’s Sandhills Chapter office in downtown Southern Pines or ask for it to be mailed.

If you’d prefer to play at your home course, registration is $200 to participate and includes event swag and a raffle ticket for a chance to win incredible prizes.

“We have a great track record for leveraging donation dollars,” said Daniels. “Every single dollar donated to Three Rivers is leveraged 12 times in land protection projects.”

TRLT officially merged with the Sandhills Area Land Trust (SALT) in July 2019. Since then, the group has actively closed on multiple conservation projects including the 89-acre Glendon Bridge tract along the Deep River in Moore County earlier this year.

“The resources that TRLT has brought to this area means we can work so much more to create change,” Daniels said.
